SaSSy_Santalum album

SaSSy gene codes for the enzyme Santalene Synthase and is obtained from the genome of Santalum album. SaSSy is involved in Santalene biosynthesis and converts Farnasyl pyrophosphate (FPP) into alpha santalene, beta santalene, epi-beta santalene, and alpha-exo-bergamotene as shown in the below figure. The protein coding region was obtained from NCBI and was codon optimized for Pseudomonas putida.

Conversion of FPP to Santalene isomers by enzyme SaSSy

The predicted structure of SaSSy is shown below with the substrate 'FPP' interaction sites.
